Description:
- Authorized by Act of Congress (Public Law 193, 65th Congress) on July 9, 1918.
- The medal was awarded to members of the U.S. National Guard and the Regular U.S. Army for military service on the Mexican Border between May 9, 1916 and March 24, 1917.
- The medal was awarded to members of the U.S. National Guard and the Regular U.S. Army serving with the Mexican Border Patrol between January 1, 1916 and April 6, 1917.
- Service members that were eligible for the Mexican Service Medal were ineligible for the Mexican Border Service Medal.
Background:
- The Medal
- OBVERSE
- A bronze medal, 1 1/4 inch in diameter, with an oxidized, relieved finish.
- A sheathed Roman sword hanging on a tablet.
- The tablet is inscribed with the words "FOR SERVICE ON" to the left of the sword and to the right the words "THE MEXICAN BORDER".
- The tablet is surrounded by a laurel wreath.
- A bronze medal, 1 1/4 inch in diameter, with an oxidized, relieved finish.
- REVERSE
- In the center is the Coat of Arms of the United States.
- Below the Coat of Arms is an open scroll.
- The Coat of Arms and scroll are surrounded by a wreath ending at the center.
- Atop the wreath to the left of the Coat of Arms are cross rifles.
- Atop the wreath to the right of the Coat of Arms are crossed sabers.
- Atop the wreath, below the scroll, are crossed cannons.
- RIBBON
The ribbon is 1 3/8 inches in width and consists of the following vertical stripes: 7/16 inch Emerald Green, 1/2 inch
Golden Yellow, 7/16 inch Emerald Green. - DEVICE(s)
