US Navy Distinguished Achievement In Science Medal

2. The Medal does appear in all of the individual service manuals for wear on the military uniform.

Background:

1. Obverse
   The medal is 1 21/32 inch in diameter with 24K Gold Plated, Matte Finish on Red Brass.

   The obverse has raised lettering is an arc at the top with the words "DEPARTMENT OF THE NAVY" with a counter arc at the bottom with words "DISTINGUISHED ACHIEVEMENT IN SCIENCE"

   In the center of the obverse is an unfouled anchor. To the left of the anchor is a flask. To the right is a microscope. Between the flask and microscope overlaid on the anchor is a surveyor's transit tool.

2. Reverse
   The reverse is flat and suitable for engraving.

3. Ribbon
   The ribbon measures 1 3/8" in width and displays 3 Golden Yellow stripes on both sides against a base of Ultramarine Blue. The individual fields measure 3/16" Ultramarine Blue, 1/16" Golden Yellow, 1/16" Ultramarine Blue, 1/16" Golden Yellow, 1/16" Ultramarine Blue, 1/16" Golden Yellow, 1/2" Ultramarine Blue, 1/16" Golden Yellow, 1/16" Ultramarine Blue, 1/16" Golden Yellow, 1/16" Ultramarine Blue, 1/16" Golden Yellow, 3/32" Ultramarine Blue.
