Description:
- Authorized in Commissioned Corps Instruction 511.01 dated 19 January 2021 Amended 7 November 2022
- The Achievement Medal is awarded to to any officer, Lieutenant Commander or lower, for superior efforts or outcomes in accomplishing a program’s mission. This could include recognition of the advancement of program objectives or superior dedication to duty over a relatively short period of time.
- The Achievement Medal recognizes significant contributions toward the attainment of program directives, sustained above-average performance of duty over a relatively short period of time, such as a short tour of duty of 120 days or less.
- The Achievement Medal is not awarded for acts of heroism.
Background:
- Obverse
The obverse is a Copper Flash Matte Finish medal that features the Commisioned Officer's insignia surrounded by the inscription "PUBLIC HEALTH SERVICE" in a curved line above and "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA" in a curved line below the insignia. - Reverse
The 1 1/2" medal has a smooth blank reverse. - Ribbon
The drape and the ribbon are 1 3/8" in width and designed in the layout of 3/32 " Navy Blue # 2, 7/16" Maroon, 1/4" Bluebird, 7/16" Maroon, 3/32 " Navy Blue # 2. - Device(s)
- A gold 5/16 inch star ia worn the on suspension and service ribbon of the medal to denote subsequent awards.
- A silver 5/16 inch star in lieu of 5 gold stars.
