Description:
- Authorized by the Commandant of the Coast Guard on September 25, 1990.
- Awarded by the area commanders, that ribbon provides visible recognition for personnel of cutters earning the overall operational readiness “E” award during refresher training.
- All personnel serving aboard their unit for more than 50 percent of the period during which it undergoes refresher training are eligible for the “E” ribbon. Personnel serving less than 50 percent of the period, or personnel who are on leave or TAD during the evolution are not eligible, unless specifically recommended by the commanding officer.
- No devices are authorized for this ribbon. (This has changed see below)
Background:
- Subsequent Awards. The following stars (or cluster) are authorized to denote subsequent awards:
A 5/16-inch gold star denotes each subsequent award. A 5/16-inch silver star is worn in lieu of five gold stars (represents the sixth award). (as per COMDTINST M1650.25E dtd 15 August 2016.) - item
