Description:
- Authorized by the Commandant of the Coast Guard on January 2, 1990.
- Awarded to all Coast Guard members, included selected Reservists, civilians, and auxiliarists, serving satisfactorily during any period from 4 June 1989 to 4 August 1990. The Bicentennial Unit Commendation may not be awarded to any individual whose entire Service subsequent to 4 June 1989 is not honorable. Personnel of other Services who were assigned to and served with the Coast Guard during that period are also eligible for that award.
- The Operational Distinguishing Device is not authorized.
Background:
- The Bicentennial Unit Commendation was awarded by the Commandant to all Coast Guard members (including selected Reservists, civilians, and auxiliarists) who serving satisfactorily during any period from June 4, 1989 to August 4, 1990. The Bicentennial Unit commendation could not be awarded to any individual whose entire service subsequent to June 4, 1989 was not honorable. Personnel of other services who were assigned to and served with the Coast Guard during this period were also eligible for the award.
