Description:
- Authorized by the Secretary of the Air Force, March 9, 1964.
- Awarded to U.S. Air Force, U.S. Air Force Reserve Service members, and Service members of other Services after August 1, 1960, for sustained individual combat or mission readiness or preparedness for direct weapon-system employment. Specifically, a Service member must meet all the following criteria:
- Member of a unit subject to combat readiness reporting.
- Individually certified as combat and/or mission ready and been subject to a continuous individual positional evaluation program, according to a major command or higher headquarters standards.
- Complete 24 months of sustained combat and/or mission readiness with no more than a 120 calendar-day break.
- Subsequent awards of the Combat Readiness Medal shall be denoted by wearing a bronze oak-leaf cluster on the suspension and service ribbons of the medal.
