Description:

  1. This ribbon was authorized by the Chief of Staff, U.S. Air Force on Oct. 12, 1980.
  2. On 16 November 2020, the Secretary of the Air Force approved the renaming of the Air Force Recognition Ribbon to the Air and Space Recognition Ribbon.
  3. It is awarded to named individual Air Force and Space Force recipients of special trophies and awards except the 12 Outstanding Airmen of the Year nominees.
  4. Bronze oak-leaf clusters will be worn on the ribbon bar to indicate subsequent awards.

Background:

  1. Award to named individual recipients of Air Force-level special trophies and awards. Refer to AFI 36-2805, Special Trophies and Awards, regarding awards eligible for the ribbon. This ribbon is not authorized for individuals assigned to a unit when the unit receives a special award. OLCs denote subsequent awards. The functional manager will provide an authorization letter.
