Description:
- This ribbon was authorized by the Chief of Staff, U.S. Air Force on Oct. 12, 1980.
- On 16 November 2020, the Secretary of the Air Force approved the renaming of the Air Force Recognition Ribbon to the Air and Space Recognition Ribbon.
- It is awarded to named individual Air Force and Space Force recipients of special trophies and awards except the 12 Outstanding Airmen of the Year nominees.
- Bronze oak-leaf clusters will be worn on the ribbon bar to indicate subsequent awards.
Background:
- Award to named individual recipients of Air Force-level special trophies and awards. Refer to AFI 36-2805, Special Trophies and Awards, regarding awards eligible for the ribbon. This ribbon is not authorized for individuals assigned to a unit when the unit receives a special award. OLCs denote subsequent awards. The functional manager will provide an authorization letter.
