Description:
- Authorized by the Secretary of the Navy, June 3, 1987.
- Awarded to U.S. Navy and Marine Corps officers and enlisted personnel or civilian citizens, national or resident aliens of the United States, who participate in operations in support of the Arctic Warfare Program.
- Minimum time limits for the award are 28 days, consecutive or nonconsecutive, above the arctic circle. For personnel working at remote ice camps and divers working under the ice, each day of duty shall count as two days when determining award eligibility.
- This award is retroactive to January 1, 1982. There are no provisions for subsequent awards.
