Coast Guard Expert Rifleman Medal

Description:

1. Awarded to Coast Guard personnel who qualify as expert with the service rifle over a prescribed course of fire.
2. Rifle Marksmanship Ribbon. Authorized for each Coast Guard person who qualifies as marksman or better with the service rifle over a prescribed course of fire. The ribbon is worn without any device for marksman qualification.
   (a) A silver “E” will be attached to the ribbon for expert qualification. The silver “E” is worn when wearing the ribbon only and will not be attached to the Expert medal’s suspension ribbon.
   (b) A silver “S” will be attached to the ribbon for sharpshooter qualification.

Background:

1. Expert Rifleman and Pistol Shot Medals are awarded by district commanders and commanding officers of headquarters units for initial qualification only.
2. When ribbons are prescribed, personnel who have been awarded a Distinguished or Excellence in Competition Award may wear the appropriate attachment, on the appropriate marksmanship ribbon. The ribbons and the representative attachments are
   
   Coast Guard Rifle Ribbon
   
   Distinguished Marksmanship Award a gold plated replica of an Ml4 rifle target for wear centered on the Coast Guard Rifleman Ribbon.
   
   Rifleman Excellence in Competition Award (Silver or Bronze), Silver or Bronze replica of the Ml4 rifle worn centered on the Coast Guard Rifleman Ribbon.

   Bronze is the first award
   Silver is the second award
