Description:
- The Philippine Independence Medal was authorized in 1946 by the United States and the Phillippine Commonwealth governments.
- The Philippine Independence Ribbon is authorized by DA Circular 59, 1948.
- Any recipient of both the Philippine Defense and Philippine Liberation ribbons is eligible for award of the Philippine Independence Ribbon.
- United States Army personnel authorized to wear the Philippine Independence Ribbon under the established criteria, may continue to wear the ribbon, provided the authority for such wear was recorded before November 24, 1954.
The Office of the Under Secretary for Personnel and Readiness maintains a list of "Approved Military Decorations and Awards" which is a roster of the approved Joint DoD awards and/or operations for which the medal is authorized.
