Description:
- This medal was authorized on 12 May 1964.
- The medal was awarded by the Republic of Vietnam to members of the U.S. Armed Forces for staff service who evidenced outstanding initiative and devotion to duty. This medal was widely awarded to American advisors.
- The Republic of Vietnam Staff Service Medal is a gold square fortress design with bastions at each pint, suspended from one point, with a sword and a writing brush which are crossed underneath. In the center of the fortress is a blue diamond with gold crossed rifles. The words "THAM-MUU BOI-TINH VIET-NAM" with a four pointed star in the center is stamped in a circle on the back.
- This medal comes in two classes:
- 1. First Class for officers with a green ribbon with red and white diagonal stripes.
- 2. Second Class for enlisted with a blue ribbon with red and white diagonal stripes.
